Seven Fruits Charoset

Recipe Submitted by wings ..|.. Category: Appetizers & Snacks

This is a family recipe for charoset. It is Sefardic and typical Israeli.

Ingredients

  • 1# ground Almonds
  • 1/2# ground Pecans
  • 1/2# each or to taste
  • raisans, dried cherries, dried apricots, cranraisans, dried figs,
  • and prunes
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1 banana
  • 1 granny smith apple peeled and sliced
  • 1 large piece of crystalized ginger
  • 1/2 tsp or to taste cinnamon and cloves
  • 1/2 cup grenadine adjust to taste
  • 1 cup or as needed Manischewitz Concord Wine

Directions

Place ingredients in a food processor and grind. Blending and shifting ingredients as needed. Place in a bowl and mix by hand and adjust taste if needed. The texture should be that like coarsely ground nuts and I don't worry if there are odd size pieces it adds to the recipe.

I typically grind the fruit in two sets and then hand mix in the ground nuts. I actually don't measure as this is a hands on family to taste recipe.

Serve at seder and then later as an appetizer with horseradish on Matzah.
