Mushroom Salisbury Steak

Ingredients

  • 1/4 C cornstarch
  • 2 cans beef consomm, undiluted or 21 oz. of beef broth
  • sliced mushrooms (6 oz can or fresh)
  • 4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp dried basil
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 1/2 C soft bread crumbs
  • 1 med onion, chopped fine*
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp seasoning salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef or ground meat of choice

Directions

In bowl, combine consomm w/cornstarch until smooth, add mushrooms, Worcestershire, and basil. Set this aside. In another bowl, combine egg, bread crumbs, onion, seasoning salt, and pepper. Add beef and mix well. Shape into 6 oval patties; place in pan and fry, turning patties when needed. Pour consomm mixture over meat and cook until done. Let stand 5 minutes. Serve with mashed potatoes or hot noodles.
*I saut the onions a bit before adding to the beef.
