Cornbread or Conebread

This is a sweet conebread and it rises nicely. I bake mine in a round 8" stone pan. No matter how much I oil it, the conebread sticks.


  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 TB pure maple syrup or honey
  • 2 TB olive oil
  • 2 TB melted butter
  • 2 cups fresh ground corn (I use white because that is all I have, but I like yellow)
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt


Blend together the first five ingredients in order given in a 2 cup measuring cup.
Thoroughly blend dry ingredients in a separate bowl.
Blend liquid ingredients into dry ingredients with a wire whisk just until evenly mixed.
Pour into greased pan (8" square or round): bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
