Sourdough French Toast

  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 6 eggs
  • 1 Sourdough Loaf sliced into 3/4 inch slices (around 12 slices)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • powdered sugar


Lay the bread slices in single layers in jelly roll pans or square cake pans. With a hand beater, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, milk, and eggs. Pour over the bread slices. Allow egg mixture to absorb into the bread for 5 or 10 minutes. Add some of the butter to a very large skillet. If using an electric skillet, heat to 275-300 degrees F. Cook each side of the bread until golden brown (around 7 minutes). When done, sprinkle with powdered sugar. Serve with honey butter or maple syrup. Honey butter: 1/4 cup butter blended with 1/4 cup honey.
