Chinese Braised Chicken

There are two recipes here. One is for the Chicken and the other below it is the Chinese Relish

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 1 (3lb) Chicken, whole or cut up
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 cup lite soy sacue
  • 2 TB chopped fresh ginger
  • 2 TB sugar
  • 1 garlic clove, crushed
  • Salt and Pepper
    Chinese Relish
  • 1 cup Finely Chopped Green Onions
  • 1/3 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1 TB grated fresh ginger
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 TB rice-wine vinegar or sherry
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Toasted Sesame seeds, far garnish (I don't use these)

Directions

Place onions in a slow cooker; add chicken. If using whole chicken, place breast side down.

In a small bowl combine water, soy sauce, ginger, sugar and garlic; pour over chicken. Cover and cook on LOW 6 to 7 hours. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.

Serve with Chinese Relish, recipe follows, and top with sesame seeds.

Chinese Relish: In a small serving bowl combine all ingredients. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
