Split Pea Soup

Recipe Submitted by tabv ..|.. Category: Crockpot & Slow Cooker

A favorite at my house, even my husband's!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb bag of split peas
  • 4 cups chicken broth
  • Ham- as desired
  • 1/2 tsp marjoram
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 cup chopped carrot (optional)
  • 1 cup chopped celery (give or take... also optional)
  • 1 cup chopped onion (or dried chopped onion, less)
  • plus 2 cups water

Directions

Start with a 1 lb bag of split peas... (halve the recipe if you don't want as much).

Sort, rinse and drain.
4 cups chicken broth (canned or the boiling water with bouillon)
Ham- I put in a big chunk (1 lb or less?) and then cut it up at the end, recipe says pork hocks or a ham bone, which also works...
1/2 tsp marjoram
1 bay leaf
1 cup chopped carrot (optional)
1 cup chopped celery (give or take... also optional)
1 cup chopped onion (or dried chopped onion, less)
Add all to crockpot, plus 2 cups water, more if you feel it needs it. (up to 2 cups more)

Cover and cook on low 10-12 hours or high 5 to 6 hours. Remove meat, chop, return to crockpot, cover and cook on high setting 5-10 minutes more.
