Bon Bon Cookies

Recipe Submitted by AKHomemom ..|.. Category: Cookies

Here is the recipe for the cookies that I grew up helping mom to make every Christmas season. One warning though, from experience (recent in fact) it is better to not double or triple this recipe, for some reason they don't come out as well
I made these last week for our Dessert Auction at church and they went for over $10 for 2 1/2 dozen.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 3/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 1/2 cup flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • Fillers:
  • chocolate chips (or other flavors)
  • dried/candied cherries
  • piece candy (ie. Reese's, M&Ms, etc)
  • raisins
  • nuts

Directions

Cream together butter, sugar (add a little at a time if using mixer) and vanilla. Add flour and salt; mix well. By the teaspoonful, flatten dough in palm of hand and put in small amount of one filler, fold dough over filler and roll into ball. Place on ungreased cookie sheet 1 inch apart and bake at 350* F for 12-15 minutes. Do not brown.
Frost as desired with powdered sugar icing, or whatever frosting you choose, w/food coloring and decorate as you want to.
